Message "In the tuning process, did you guys make consecutive pulls with adjusting nothing but the exhaust cam timing over a range of degrees?"

-- Yes, that is exactly how SZ tuned the cam gears.

I would imagine that as you adjust the exhaust cam timing you are going to see a shift in the torque; favoring low RPM, mid RPM, or upper RPM bands

-- Depending on how you tune the gears, you will see a shift throught out the whole RPM band.

-- I can't speak on the whys or why nots on why Z1 designed these gears. I can tell you that I have JWT 500 cams and my reasoning had nothing to do with Z1. After speaking to SZ, they informed me that the JWT cam gears have some design flaws on the passenger side (I think) and that they need to be degreed. This is known by JWT. The cams are not optinumal degreed as is and should be slotted. Couple that with the fact that each built motor has different degrees of head work and other internal work done - to degree the cams is a no brainer to any serious engine builder and is an easy way to get free horsepower based on ones setup.

Kid :" Those old guys drive that way ?"

Witness : "Yeah, I rode behind them at ZNationals 2010 on these back roads leaving the track day and they were foot in. They ran into the curves w/no brakes and didn't lift!"
